EyestrainClick here to open a printable versionYour eyes are controlled by many small muscles and prolonged periods of work, such as reading, working on a computer, driving and other tasks which involve visual concentration, such as working with a microscope, puts strain on the muscles controlling your eyes. Signs of eyestrain include redness, pain, a burning sensation of the eyes, tiredness, difficulty focusing, double vision, headaches, excessive tears or dryness of the eyes. Causes other than prolonged periods of uses include mechanical problems such as far or near sightedness. This can be corrected through the use of correct glasses. Other diseases of the eye may also put strain on the eyes. It is therefore important to consult a healthcare practitioner if you experience symptoms of eyestrain for longer than six weeks.
