BoilsClick here to open a printable versionA boil is an accumulation of pus and dead cells under the skin around an inflamed and infected hair follicle. The accumulation of pus causes a lump that may be painful and red. If there is a large amount of pus or if the boil is about to pop then the lump may have a white or yellow colour. When a boil pops the pus is released and with it the infecting organism should also leave your body. Boils may occur individually or in groups and the may cause a significant amount of physical and emotional discomfort. They commonly occur on a person’s back, shoulders, face, buttocks and thighs. Applying warmth to the area of skin with the boils may help to speed up the draining of the pus. Once the boil pops, it is important to keep the area clean in order to avoid infection. Please consult your healthcare practitioner if your boils have not healed within one week. Also see carbuncles. TreatmentSilicea Calc sulph |
